Empiricism
The inclination to give observation a leading role in what we can know about the world.
Classical empiricism, in Locke and Hume, is a claim about the materials and the limits of knowledge. It is not identical with “trusting experiments” as a modern social practice, and it does not say that logic is useless. On this site the pole records which source you let lead when observation and a general argument conflict.
